Founded in 1991, our goal is to support and promote quilting activities throughout Lunenburg County and surrounding areas. Guild membership is open to anyone interested in quilts and quilting. The Mahone Bay Quilters Guild is a chapter of the provincial Mayflower Quilters Guild. We are also a Guild Member of the Canadian Quilters Association. Our members come from a broad geographic area.
There are ten meetings each year, from September to June:
-
Meetings are held at Trinity United Church in Mahone Bay.
-
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month. If the first Monday is a holiday, the meeting is moved to the following Monday.
-
Meetings include a meet and greet from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00, followed by a business meeting, “sew and tell” and a planned program. Members are encouraged to bring their latest creations for “sew and tell.” Please note that our meetings and workshops are scent free.
-
January, February and March meetings are generally held in the afternoon from 1pm-3pm.
-
December and June meetings feature a social gathering and potluck.
Workshops are organized by the Guild throughout the year. Workshop fees vary. The cost of workshops with out-of-town instructors will depend upon expenses. Each April, the Guild hosts an “Extraordinary Quilter” (EQ) who is brought in from outside the area to conduct several days of workshops. The guild hosts an afternoon tea for over 100 ticket-buying quilt lovers; members donate sandwiches and desserts. The EQ presents a trunk show at the tea.
Annual dues of $30 are payable at the May meeting. Visitors to a Guild meeting are welcome. If you are interested in joining the Guild, please contact Elizabeth at ejtumlin@hotmail.com
Members are encouraged to wear a name tag. New members will receive a "new members" package which will include the pattern for the guild name tag or you may wear any name tag of your choice.
The guild maintains an extensive library of quilting related books and magazines and a selection of quilt rulers. The library is open on meeting dates from 7:00-7:30 PM and during the break.
All members in good standing will receive the email newsletter a week before each meeting or by regular mail.
The guild holds a quilt show and sale in even-numbered years.
The guild executive committee is comprised of a president (limited to two, one year terms), vice-president (usually succeeds the president), secretary, treasurer, program committee, communications committee, librarian and membership person. Vacancies are filled by a nominating committee each May; nominees are voted on by the membership at our AGM in June. For further information on the Guild, Download Mbqg-by-laws-2019
