2016 Volunteer Appreciation Award
We asked you, the members, to nominate your choices for the 2016 Volunteer Award. The rules are that it must be for exceptional volunteering for the Guild during the past year. Of the 32 nominations received, 14 of them were for one person, so the decision was pretty easy this year. I am pleased to tell you that Barb Robson is the Mahone Bay Quilters’ Guild volunteer of the year.
She receives the award for her organization of the pop-up quilt show, her leadership at the Father Christmas Festival, the ticket sales for the dessert party, but most of all for her ongoing and brilliant communications on behalf of the Guild. I would also like to mention the contribution she makes to the executive, bringing a corporate memory which none of us can match.
Here are a few things that you had to say about her:
So many hours spent helping the Guild with communications. Amazing work, the emails keeping us together. Her wonderful knowledge and ability to share information.
She’s always positive. We love her!
Barb has offered to do almost every job on the executive , never shirking from responsibility. She always helps new quilters get started.
She is quietly efficient, generous with time and talents, fabulous front face with the web site and Blog – just the best!
Without Barb, we might fall apart!
2015 Volunteer Appreciation Awards

We appreciate and would like to acknowledge all our Guild volunteers. They are what makes our Guild so great! Last year we began to acknowledge our outstanding volunteers with a "Volunteer Appreciation Award". The first awards were decided by the Executive and they had a hard time deciding, so many are deserving, so many have given so much to our Guild. A tough decision but for our first two awards we chose Valerie Langille and Diane MacMillan. Each received a lovely glass plate which was engraved with our Guild logo, as well each plate was presented in a handmade bag (with thanks to Nancy MacIntosh). Pictures of the presentation can be found here.
Valerie Langille (and her team) have been successfully organizing our annual Cuddle Quilt Day for several years now. It is not just a one day effort, Valerie (and her team) work all year to make Cuddle Quilt Day a success. Thanks to Valerie our quilts are now donated to charities throughout Nova Scotia. Not only do they organize the day ( it is so efficient, a real assembly line!) but they make quilt tops through out the year and they do it so cheerfully! Thank you Valerie and your team for all your hard work and dedication to this very important Guild project.
Diane MacMillan has been a member of the Guild since the beginning (or close to it!). Diane has served the Executive in many capacities as well she has taught many workshops and mentored many beginner quilters and new members. Diane does not know how to say "no", whenever she is asked to help or do something for the Guild, she does it and we all appreciate her so much! Several times Diane's quilts have won the "Viewers Choice Award" at our bi-annual quilt show. Her quilting expertise does not go unnoticed! Thank you Diane for all your years of dedication to our Guild!
From now on the recipients will be nominated by members. Ballots and a box are at each meeting so be sure and nominate a deserving member! The award will be presented at our AGM in June.
